Aa Bata Aama 2' Declared Superhit After Recovering Budget
Director and producer Chandra Panta has officially declared the Dashain release 'Aa Bata Aama 2' a "Superhit" after the film successfully recovered its production costs and entered the profit zone.
While the Film Development Board's report recorded collections of over Rs 4.11 million within 10 days, the makers claim the film's total gross reached Rs 5.5 crore by Tuesday. According to Panta, the film was made on a modest budget of just Rs 1.8 crore, inclusive of marketing expenses. He credited optimized single-location scheduling, sponsored promotional concerts, and synchronized foreign shoots during scheduled overseas trips for keeping production costs low.
Given standard industry benchmarks where a film grossing over triple its investment is deemed a superhit, 'Aa Bata Aama 2' comfortably fits the criteria. After deducting theater shares, taxes, and distributor commissions from the Rs 5.5 crore gross, the producer's net share stands at approximately Rs 2.2 crore.
Despite achieving commercial profitability, industry analysts note that the film's overall box-office momentum remains subdued compared to expectations. While post-Dashain theater occupancies remain satisfactory, audience reception has been mixed. All eyes are now on whether the sequel can challenge the massive Rs 13.5 crore benchmark set by its original predecessor.
